A once-a-month chance to slow down and notice the natural world in Shirehampton. It’s family-friendly, welcoming for all ages, and no experience is needed.

With nature ID guides, bird call apps, binoculars, bug pots, and a bit of curiosity, we’ll see what plants, birds, and creatures are here at this time of year. At the end, we’ll gather and make a simple list of everything we’ve seen. It’s relaxed, low-key, and open to everyone.

We are making Shire’s green spaces pollinator friendly. We are introducing pollinator friendly plants in two areas close to our high street: an area on the Ridge, and another on the corner of Lower High Street and Penpole Lane. Shire Greens was adopted on 26 March 2002 as an Action Group under Shirehampton Action’s umbrella. Their vision is for a community park serving everyone in the community.

The Daisy Field and the adjacent allotments were the starting point for this evolving project. They continue working with Bristol City Council Parks for improvements in maintenance and care of our open green spaces, parks and childrens’ play areas. Activities include practical community environmental events, such as planting bulbs, wildflower and meadow creation and clean-ups.

Shire Greens also ‘adopted’ Shirehampton Train Station and continue to look after it.

Shire Greens and Bee Happy Shire are combining to create a Neighbours for Nature Working Party every 1st Saturday of the month, from 10am to 11am, at the Shirehampton Community Garden, Pembroke Avenue, behind the Baptist Church.

We meet at 10:30 outside the Public Hall on Station Road to pick up litter. All equipment will be provided.

Friends of Lamplighter’s Marsh (FOLM) is a volunteer group that was formed by a group of local residents in 2015. The group’s purpose is to protect and enhance the Lamplighter’s Marsh Local Nature Reserve. They meet on the first Saturday of most months at 10am for a two hour working party, often followed by a social in the Lamplighters pub. Find out more about FOLM or join their group on Facebook.
